Midcentury large Smith’s Sectric wall clock in yellow
A superb 1950s Smith’s Sectric electric wall clock, fully functional, rewired and PAT tested.
A round clock face with the most fantastic minimal font making the black numerals, which have lots of charming craquelure, on a simple off-white face, with some characterful spotting around the face.
This ~70 year old clock has been rewired with a new two core black fabric flex to contrast the yellow case. The case has been painted yellow at some stage in its history, from a mottled brown bakelite.
The clock runs silently so won’t disrupt you even in a study or bedroom.
A new black 3 pin UK plug has been fitted with a brand new 3 amp fuse. This means the clock will be safe even in an electrical surge.
The fabric cable is a generous 2 metres 65cm long to reach all the way to the floor even if placed high, then to the nearest plug socket or extension lead. Please note, when photos were taken for this listing the clock had not yet hung so the cable will straighten with time.
This Smith’s Sectric is a ‘Delhi Major’ model, which can be seen stamped to the reverse.
It has an integral hook plate to the reverse for hanging.
The only adjustable part is the rod which protrudes from the base of the clock. The plastic ribbed knob is pushed in/up and turned to move the hands to set the correct time. After first plugging the clock in, you need to move the hands with this rotating knob before the hands will move.
This fantastic looking, iconic midcentury classic English made clock would’ve been seen in schools, businesses and the home throughout the land in the 1950s and 60s.
This clock measures 37cm in diameter at the back, 18cm to the front and is 7cm deep. The black braided cable is a generous 265cm long.
