Large green glass dump with bubbles
A beautiful, large green glass dump.
In a time when all glass was blown, a blower would end up with a quantity of liquid glass which wasn’t enough to make another if what they were creating, so they would often produce these balls of glass with the remainder, blowing an array of bubbles into them to increase their decorative appeal. These are ‘poetically’ known as glass ‘dumps’.
Very difficult to date as they’re unmarked, however this appears to be many decades old if not longer, looking at the wear to the base. There is also a band of roughened surface settings the central circumference which shows more against dark backgrounds.
A large and very attractive green glass blob. Lovely in a window.
Measures approximately 16cm tall X 15cm diameter.
