Antique German Orivit raised silver plate like pewter serving bowl / fruit bowl with glass insert

A wonderful turn of the twentieth century raised pedestal ‘Orivit’ serving bowl or fruit bowl of silver plate-like material with a shaped glass insert.

This dish is made by and of a unique material called Orivit, 89.85% pewter; 7.9 % antimony; 1.9 % copper and 0.12 % silver. This is a brighter and richer version of pewter.

This company was founded in 1894 and was bought up by WMF in 1905. Beginning at the Paris exhibition in 1900 where the company won the gold medal, it won various design awards in the early years of the last century.

With elegant flowers and leaves pierced and chased into the perimeter, and a large flower beneath the glass bowl, which follows the contour of of the lip of the dish.

Great for fruit, hors d’ouevres or perhaps jewellery, brooches, keys on a sideboard, a large wide-based candle…
